In Bridgetownthe main harbour and economic centre of the Barbados Islandwe feel like we are in "Little England", here at the interface between the Caribbean Sea and the open Atlantic Ocean. The easternmost island of the Lesser Antilles cannot hide its British colonial heritage, especially in the capital.
Here on the west coast, the ocean rests in all shades of green-blue, while in the east of the island powerful waves roll in for brave surfers. Around Hastings, on the southern outskirts of Bridgetown, one dream beach follows the next - all freely accessible to locals and tourists. The island's evening and nightlife pulsates in the bars and streets between Brownes Beach and Miami Beach and could hardly be more Caribbean.
