Balearic Islands Sailing Trip
Sailing on the Mediterranean around Mallorca
Sailing and snorkelling in the sunny Mediterranean, encounters with dolphins and small whales, setting anchor and swimming in beautiful bays: "Welcome aboard" to our six day sailing trip around Mallorca!
Please note the following about the itinerary described:
The route we will sail will depend on the prevailing wind and weather conditions and may change at short notice if necessary. The captain often decides the course of each day's sailing, in particular the choice of a reachable harbour or anchorage for the night, on that day and will, whenever possible, of course try to take into account your wishes. This ensures that your sailing trip will be a pleasant mix of adventure and comfort, participation and simple enjoyment.
Embarkation in Mallorca
The starting point of this journey is the harbour in Palma de Mallorca. The pleasant climate, the typical island landscape, and the world-famous beaches make this Balearic island a top holiday destination. Use the time before checking in to visit the Gothic cathedral of La Seu, which is regarded as the main tourist attraction of the city. As you stroll down the ramblas, the main streets of the old town, you will discover Palma as a vibrant Mediterranean city. If you have more time to explore the island with a rental car, you'll find enchanting views and discoveries at almost every corner and when you find some lovely remote spots, you'll see why this island has earned its nickname the "island of peace". Our tip for sporty travellers is to check out the giant water slide park Agualand El Arenal east of Palma.
In the Bahia de Palma, our friendly crew will welcome you aboard the modern tall ship, which is equipped to high standards, where you'll get to know your fellow sailors. After a welcome drink, you will feel at home quickly both in your air-conditioned single or double cabin and on deck. A detailed safety briefing by our professional crew will quickly familiarise you with the ship and soon you’ll even be able to lend a hand manning the sails yourself.
Adventure at sea and excursions on land
We plan our sailing tours to spend as much time as possible under sail on the water during the day and then find safe anchorage in a sheltered bay in the evening. Excursions on land or offshore islands are possible at any time with the dinghy on board the 'Eye of the Wind'. The following list is an incomplete selection of possible spots along Mallorca's coastline where we could set anchor:
Port d’Andratx / San Telmo / Dragonera Island
After rounding the Cap de Cala Figuera, we head in a north-westerly direction. We set anchor during the day in the Cala en Fonol and visit the celebrity resort of Port d'Andratx. A few miles further and we can set anchor between San Telmo and Dragonera in the afternoon. After a swim in the Mediterranean, we enjoy the tranquil sea and watch from the deck as the sun sets over Dragonera, perhaps with a glass of wine from the bar on board. The next morning, you'll have opportunity to go snorkelling and swimming or take a short walk on one of the narrow footpaths on the 3 square kilometre Dragonera. Once an important naval base, the island is now a nature and bird reserve.
Cala de Sa Costa Brava / Sa Foradada / Deia
A beautiful spot to anchor along a small promontory on the bizarre, rocky north-western coast of Mallorca. An opportunity for an evening walk on land or a swim in the bay. Hiking and culture enthusiasts will enjoy taking a short walk to the aristocratic residence Son Marroig, which is picturesquely situated above the bay of Sa Foradada. A visit to the antique interior, the marble pavilion, and the garden is worthwhile. From here, you can enjoy the magnificent views along the north-western coast all the way back to Dragonera. Alternatively, we can set anchor in the nearby bay of Deia and take a hike to the picturesque artists' village of the same name.
Port de Sóller
Here we have the options of setting anchor in the semi-circular bay or mooring in the harbour. The harbour, with its cafés and bars, is well worth exploring. A nostalgic tram runs up to the centre of Sóller, a good place for a stroll to the attractive Placa Mallorca.
Cala de Sa Calobra
An anchorage in the middle of an imposing mountain gorge with views of the impressive Tramontana mountains. An opportunity for swimming and snorkelling or going ashore. A narrow mountain path runs through the gorge along the cliffs, where you might occasionally see mountain goats climbing.
Cap de Formentor / Port de Pollença
Around the northern cape to the long shady beach Platja Formentor. Set anchor in front of the famous Hotel Formentor, where famous statesmen have alighted and many international conferences have been held. Alternatively, we can set anchor in the Bay of Pollença and go ashore there.
The compass points to relaxation
Each day will be unique: even encounters with whales and dolphins are common in this part of the Mediterranean because the strong current from the Atlantic Ocean creates an abundant fish population. During the trip, you can of course join in operating the sails if you want—no experience is necessary. But even if you don't want to start pulling on the ropes yourself and would prefer to enjoy the trip on the deck or in the comfortable lounge, setting and trimming the sails is always a fascinating show of skill going back to a long-past seafaring era. Enjoy your time on board and let your taste buds be spoiled by the excellent galley, which consistently receives top marks in our customer satisfaction surveys.
After six days at sea, we reach our starting port Palma. You'll leave the ship, the crew, and fellow sailors with a bag full of lasting memories. Varied and memorable days on the Mediterranean are now behind you. From the city’s international airport, you can reach many international destinations in just a few hours with direct flights.
