Sailor: Amy

I come from the Canadian Prairie Provinces, a very landlocked region. I started sailing dinghies as a sea cadet when I was a teenager, and my interest has developed into a passion for tall ships. I started sailing tall ships in 2011 and have loved it ever since. For 12 years I worked as a watch captain and bosun on square-rigged sailing boats, and in the summer of 2023 I turned my dream of sailing into a professionwhen I signed on as deckhand on the Eye of the Wind.

The Sailing on the Eye of the Wind is something very specialbecause being on a small ship (compared to what I'm used to!) means that we are in be able to drive to smaller and more remote areasinto which larger ships cannot penetrate. My favourite place to work is on deck with our trainees and guests - I pass on my knowledge and experience to them and watch them grow and develop during their time on board.

My dream sailing destinations are anywhere in the colder regions - the Canadian Arctic, Spitsbergen, Antarctica ... And I would love to cross the Southern Ocean and round Cape Horn.
