Trip information

Over a welcome drink, you will get to know your fellow passengers for the day. Or bring your family and friends on board with you and enjoy an eventful day together on one of the last original tall ships of our time.

The grand windjammer parade on the penultimate day of Kiel Sailing Week is the highlight of the event for all visitors and participating sailors. On board the Eye of the Wind, you will be right in the middle of the parade – experiencing the atmosphere on board, watching the other tall ships sail by and enjoying the view of the fjord landscape on the shore!

Together with a large fleet of pleasure boats, historic steamships and traditional sailing ships, we sail past the green and white Friedrichsort lighthouse towards the Baltic Sea. On our starboard side, we see the Laboe Naval Memorial, and right next to it, we discover the former submarine U 995, which looks particularly impressive from this perspective as it sits enthroned on the beach. Small colourful sails dominate the scene on the opposite shore of the fjord. This is where the sailing competitions take place on the regatta courses. The centre of the sailing competition is the Schilksee Olympic Centre – this is where the Olympic flame burned during the 1972 Games, and to this day it is the heart of the organisational headquarters for every Kiel Sailing Week.

This is where you board

Kiel

Experience the impressive Kiel Canal with a view of the locks and enjoy walks by the water. Discover the lighthouse monument where Kaiser Wilhelm II once opened the canal. Relax in the café with a view of the passing ships.

In Holtenau, on the western shore of the Kiel Fjord, the Tiessenkai complex is a maritime attraction and focal point. Here you have the opportunity to watch the varied comings and goings in front of the locks of the Kiel Canal. From small sports yachts to ocean giants, watercraft of all types and sizes pass by us during the day on the world's busiest artificial waterway. On a walk to the small Holtenau lighthouse, you can soak up the nostalgic harbour atmosphere – old cargo sailors and schooners are often moored here at the quay.
Make the most of your stay by exploring the Kiel Fjord, spending a day at Falckenstein beach or taking a trip into the world of sailing at the Olympic harbour in Schilksee or the marina in Strande.
