Rolling Home to Hamburg
Spring days on the North Sea
JadeWeserPort, Helgoland, Weser- and Elbe esturay
Come aboard a traditional Tall Ship and sail with us over the river Weser and the river Elbe into the heart of the city of Hamburg.
Elsfleth: Return of the ‚Eye of the Wind‘ to her place of origin
In the small town of Elsfleth you will board our modern tall ship. About 102 years ago the ‘Eye of the Wind’ was built here in the Lühring shipyard. After a safety briefing the command “cast off” can soon be heard, and we leave out to sea under sail. A few sea miles later on our starboard side emerges the striking backdrop of the harbor of Bremerhaven (see image below). Depending on wind and weather conditions, we will sail around the peninsula Butjadingen and spend the night in the city of Wilhelmshaven.
The next day we will continue to sail into the North Sea. When the sails are set for the first time, filled with wind and the engine is being turned off, then there is a feeling which gets under your skin. The fascination that emanates from the ocean is even more intense on a Tall Ship. The gentle, constant ups and downs of the hull in the waves, the vastness of the sea and the faint creaking of the rigging are the ingredients for a relaxing holiday experience. The sea and the fresh air make you hungry, as you know - so you can look forward to our excellent galley, which has received the grade 1.0 throughout in our surveys on customer satisfaction. Let yourself be surprised! And should an uncomfortable vernal wind blow over the gray-green sea outside, make yourself comfortable below deck in a comfortable lounge and browse the extensive onboard library or the DVDs on offer.
Helgoland: Germany´s only offshore island and a „natural wonder“
After a day at sea, we reach Helgoland, Germany´s only offshore island. The red rock island with its highly visible symbol of the free-standing rock "Lange Anna" offers optimal protection for larger ships and also numerous opportunities for duty free shopping to visitors. The North Sea Island received the award as Germany's most beautiful “natural wonder” in 2012. Use your stay for a walk, to visit the North Sea aquarium or a boat trip to the resort island “Dune”, where visitors share the island beach with seals.

The Port of Hamburg – the „Gateway to the World“ celebrates its 824th birthday
We leave Helgoland and after a few more miles we reach Cuxhaven. This area at the estuaries of the Elbe and Weser, and with the nearby West exit of the Kiel Canal is the busiest shipping lane with around 70,000 ship movements a year. We line up in the never-ending stream of yachts, ships and ocean liners and sail onwards into the port of Hamburg (see image below).
Finally, we are at the end of our three-day North Sea cruise and fasten the lines in the port of Hamburg. Exciting days between Weser, North Sea and Elbe are now lying behind us. If you like to experience some more of the 'Eye of the Wind' after this short time under the red sails - we look forward to welcome you back on board!
