Firstmate (m / f / d)

We look forward to receiving your unsolicited application.

Your tasks

We are now looking for a seaworthy firstmate qualified for at least 200 GT, preferably with experience in traditional sail training. You have practical experience with traditional ships, especially with square-rigged sailing ships. You should be able to fit in well with a young, international team with different levels of experience.

Your duties will include watchkeeping, maintenance of safety and navigation equipment, medical equipment and active participation on deck in all activities and manoeuvres related to the operation of the ship. You will also be responsible for coordinating the operation and maintenance of all rigging components and general ship maintenance tasks, as well as looking after a maximum of 12 guests and providing guidance and support for interior maintenance.

You will work in an on/off system of approx. three months on board / three months off (1:1 rotation).

Your requirements / your profile

You have a valid STCW Basic Safety Certificate of Competency, a valid ENG 1 seafarer medical fitness certificate and a qualification for ocean-going vessels from 200 GT. You act responsibly, are service-orientated and have a friendly tone of voice. You also have the necessary physical requirements for working on board a seagoing vessel. You can confidently apply your extensive practical experience on rigged sailing school ships and you can competently pass on your specialist knowledge to our trainees. Good English - and preferably German - language skills are required for communicating with staff and guests.

The Eye of the Wind is a charter ship with a special sailing area and an international crew of 10. A prerequisite for a permanent employment contract is your willingness to familiarise yourself with your workplace and our crew members during a trial week on board.

Have we piqued your interest?

Then we look forward to receiving your application with CV and proof of qualifications to  info@eyeofthewind.net
