Medical information
Medical information for voyages where it is not possible to call at a port for a period of more than one week or only under difficult conditions (e.g. Atlantic crossing)
We require all passengers taking part in long-distance cruises to submit a fully completed medical questionnairewhich we will send you as a form together with your travel documents and which you should have certified by your family doctor or attending physician and return to us. Your details will of course be treated in the strictest confidence.
This measure is essential for the following reasons: transfer voyages generally last longer than a week, in some cases up to four weeks. The ship has a basic supply of medicines and medical equipment, and our crew is medically trained. Beyond this, there is no medical care network on the ocean.
Please observe the following instructions:
- The certificate may be issued by your doctor at the earliest three months before travelling.
- The form must be completed by the doctor in English.
- IMPORTANT: It is essential that you bring the completed form on board with you at the start of your journey. A copy must be sent to the ship's office in advance. The postal address for sending letters is printed on page 2 of the form. You can also send the form by e-mail to info@eyeofthewind.net (please only send scans, no photographed documents). If this questionnaire is not submitted on the day of embarkation, the tour operator may refuse to allow you to travel.
- You should be in good physical condition for a longer sailing trip. If you suffer from serious health problems, heart problems or physical disabilities that severely restrict your independence, we advise you not to take part in the trip. The trip may entail an unacceptable risk to your health and also affect the enjoyment of other travellers. Should such a restricted state of health become apparent during the journey or trip, the organiser reserves the right to refuse a passenger the start or continuation of the journey at any time.
- Please remember to bring sufficient quantities of all vital or regular medication with you, as this is not necessarily available on board. Repatriation costs in the event of illness can be extremely high on the high seas, take several days or not be possible directly.
- It is advisable to take out travel health insurance including repatriation.
- FORUM train & sail GmbH is not liable for any losses, compensation for expenses and claims for damages resulting from the cancellation of the trip due to accident, illness or medically necessary return transport. We recommend that you take out appropriate travel insurance to cover any claims.
Thank you for your understanding and for your assistance with this necessary measure.
