Trip information

The starting point of this journey is a true Caribbean beauty that you will not want to leave: the island of Saint Martin, part of the Lesser Antilles archipelago, is considered a top holiday destination. From here, the Eye of the Wind will head for the northernmost point of the legendary Bermuda Triangle: the beautiful Bermuda archipelago. In between lie more than 850 nautical miles full of natural impressions and great sailing days with our friendly crew. Look forward to a fresh air sailing trip on the Atlantic – afterwards you will know how to spell "relaxation"’ ...

This is where you board

Saint-Martin

The island of Saint Martin, part of the Lesser Antilles archipelago, is considered a top holiday destination. Make the most of your stay for a relaxing day on the dreamy Dawn Beach. Saint-Martin is considered the "culinary capital of the Caribbean" – be sure to try the local specialities made from the guava fruit.

Princess Juliana International Airport is located in the Dutch southern half of the twin island Sint Maarten / Saint-Martin. A special feature of this Caribbean island paradise worth seeing can be found in the immediate vicinity: At the nearby Maho Beach the distance between the landing aircraft and the heads of the beach visitors (or the mastheads of the boats anchored there) is often only a few metres. The arrival times of the largest scheduled jets are announced daily on a chalkboard attached to a surfboard for amateur photographers. Between the airport and the nearby town of Marigot taxis or minibuses are available. The modern Fort Louis Marina lies in the French part of the colourful and lively Caribbean islandwhere the Euro is the official national currency.

Voyage description

Our crew welcomes you aboard at the modern Fort Louis Marina in Marigot, located in the French part of this colourful and lively Caribbean island. Embarkation takes place at 7 p.m. During the subsequent dinner together in the cosy saloon, you will immediately feel at home on the deck and get to know your fellow travellers.

Our sailing area: the North Atlantic between 18 and 32 degrees latitude

Here you will find boundless happiness: a pleasant breeze pushes us through the azure blue water across seemingly endless expanses. The gentle, steady rocking of the ship's hull in the waves, the vastness of the sea offering no point of reference for the eye, and the quiet creaking of the rigging are the ingredients for a relaxing holiday experience.

Nights on deck under the starry sky, a steady trade wind, a maritime climate with pleasant temperatures and the sight of wind-filled sails: ahead of us lie around 900 nautical miles on the Atlantic Ocean, which our two-masted ship will cover mainly with the power of the wind. Time for you to get to know the ship as a place of tranquillity where you can leave behind the flood of information and the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Enjoy relaxing on deck or take an active part in watch duty, climb the shrouds on the mast and set sail as part of the crew! On the way, indulge in daily changing creations from our excellent galley. Treat yourself to hours of peace and quiet with a good book from the extensive on-board library.

Bermuda on the horizon

At the end of our journey, the coastline of Bermuda appears before us on the azure blue horizon. As we get closer, we soon recognise the idyllic pink beaches and the island's typical limestone houses with their snow-whitewashed roofs and pastel-coloured facades. Along the main island of Grand Bermuda, we sail into the sheltered harbour of the second largest island, St. George's.

Bermuda International Airport is located on St. David's Island, within easy reach of our mooring. From here, you can reach many major airports with one stopover (e.g. via London, New York, Atlanta or Boston).

This is where you disembark

Bermuda

Explore the 34-kilometre-long main island on a day trip and discover Bermuda as a holiday destination in a mild maritime climate. The lively capital Hamilton attracts visitors with its shopping opportunities on Front Street. Bermuda's beaches are among the most beautiful in the world with their shimmering pink coral sand.

During the day, St. George's resembles a living open-air museum from the British colonial era. A popular meeting place is King's Square with its reconstructed pillory and the diving chair, which was once used to briefly lower "gossiping women" into the harbour basin. In the evening hours, a colourful hustle and bustle unfolds around the harbour: bars, restaurants and shops invite visitors to immerse themselves in the night with rum punch, calypso sounds and the constant chorus of tree frogs. Nature lovers will get their money's worth, as lush tropical vegetation characterises the island's appearance. In the botanical garden, you can discover the full diversity and colourfulness of the native flora. The Crystal Caves in the Hamilton district are considered an insider tip.

Guestbook comments

I can highly recommend a sailing trip on the Eye of the Wind. This is a sailing ship straight out of a picture book, and the crew is in a great mood. You may climb to the top of the mast – 27 metres above sea level. Fabulous!"

Simply an overwhelming experience - you have to experience it.

Dr Hermann Gärlich

Here I can let go of all the tension and find myself again.

Seeing this magnificent sailing ship glide through the waves powered only by the wind is an indescribable feeling. There is nothing more beautiful.
