Trip information

Would you like to finally fulfil your dream of sailing on a windjammer? Are you still unsure whether you can really handle the gentle rocking of the waves? – This five-day trip is an excellent way to get a taste of traditional sailing! During the days on board, you will enjoy the comfort and excellent cuisine, experience authentic traditional seamanship and discover how it feels to go ashore in the evening after a day at sea. We will sail largely within sight of the mainland. From our berth in Eckernförde city harbour, we will sail along the Schleswig-Holstein Baltic Sea coast and into the Schlei fjord with opportunities to go ashore in the beautiful harbour towns of Maasholm or Kappeln. At this time of year, fresh early summer air is guaranteed here in the western Baltic Sea. The destination of this sailing trip is the Tiessenkai in Kiel-Holtenau, located on the western shore of the Kiel Fjord.

Eckenförde

Eckernförde delights with its maritime charm: the long sandy beach invites you to swim, while the historic old town with its colourful gabled houses and the Sankt Nicolai church tower tempts you to take a stroll. The harbour, the Baltic Sea Information Centre and the candy factory are also worth a visit.

Eckernförde is idyllically situated on the Baltic Sea coast of Schleswig-Holstein. In the town harbour, you can take a stroll along the inviting harbour promenade, which is a popular attraction for guests and locals alike. The fine sandy, four-kilometre-long beach with its colourful beach chairs is only a few minutes' walk away.

Make the most of your stay by taking a leisurely stroll through the shopping streets in the immediate vicinity of the harbour area. The historic old town invites you to wander around its lovingly restored half-timbered houses, small boutiques and winding alleys. Particularly worth seeing is the 13th-century St. Nicolai Church, whose tower offers a wonderful view of the city and the sea.

Kiel

Experience the impressive Kiel Canal with a view of the locks and enjoy walks by the water. Discover the lighthouse monument where Kaiser Wilhelm II once opened the canal. Relax in the café with a view of the passing ships.

In Holtenau, on the western shore of the Kiel Fjord, the Tiessenkai complex is a maritime attraction and focal point. Here you have the opportunity to watch the varied comings and goings in front of the locks of the Kiel Canal. From small sports yachts to ocean giants, watercraft of all types and sizes pass by us during the day on the world's busiest artificial waterway. On a walk to the small Holtenau lighthouse, you can soak up the nostalgic harbour atmosphere – old cargo sailors and schooners are often moored here at the quay.
Make the most of your stay by exploring the Kiel Fjord, spending a day at Falckenstein beach or taking a trip into the world of sailing at the Olympic harbour in Schilksee or the marina in Strande.
