Trip information

The sailing ship Eye of the Wind has been cruising the world's oceans since 1911. During the Hamburg Harbour Birthday celebrations, visitors can tour the tall ship, which has also achieved screen fame as a film set in several Hollywood productions. As part of an open ship event, the crew will answer questions from sailors, ship lovers and young sea dogs about the ship and its history, which began in its home port of Hamburg. Every visitor can try their hand at tying sailor's knots, and collectors will of course receive a ship's stamp.

Admission is free. Registration or booking is not necessary for participation in the Open Ship. There is no day trip during the Open Ship; the ship remains moored at its berth. The organiser reserves the right to change the berth at short notice.

Hamburg

Hamburg inspires with its maritime atmosphere and impressive sights: The imposing Elbphilharmonie concert hall, the historic Speicherstadt ensemble and the lively Reeperbahn characterise the cityscape. The harbour invites you to take a harbour tour, while the Binnenalster and Planten un Blomen invite you to relax.

Hamburg, Germany's "gateway to the world", fascinates visitors with a mixture of maritime history, modern architecture and vibrant city life. Among the outstanding sights is the Port of Hamburg, one of the largest seaports in Europe, which is best experienced on a harbour tour. The Elbphilharmonie in the HafenCity district impresses with its outstanding acoustics and spectacular architecture. The historical journey continues in the Speicherstadt, the largest contiguous warehouse complex in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Hamburg residents and visitors alike can relax on the Inner and Outer Alster lakes. Museums, theatres and the Planten un Blomen park round off the diverse range of attractions. From 1911 onwards, Hamburg was the first home port of the Eye of the Wind, which was then called Friedrich.
