The "cathedrals of the seas" were the big windjammers once called when their mountains of canvas appeared above the wet horizon. Swap everyday life for a week in favour of the Life on board such a traditional tall ship in. Our two-master, built in 1911, will take you on a journey of discovery. Unforgettable sea voyage through the Baltic Sea. For this area and this route, the Seafaring town of Flensburg the ideal starting point.

This is where you board

Flensburg

Immerse yourself in the maritime history of the port of Flensburg, known as the home of rum and the West Indies voyage. Explore romantic captains' and merchants' courtyards and follow in the footsteps of the adventurers who brought raw rum from the Caribbean in the 18th century.

In the Flensburg harbour our crew will welcome you on board. Embarkation takes place at 7 pm. You will get to know your fellow travellers over a welcome drink followed by dinner together in the cosy saloon and will soon find your way around the deck planks of the Eye of the Wind and into your tastefully decorated cabin.

The Historic seafaring and harbour town is considered the home of rum and the West Indies voyage. Here you can follow in the footsteps of adventure, the smell of salt and tar in the midst of romantic captains' and merchants' yards. Our tip: Take part in one of the city tours on offer, such as "Travelling in the footsteps of the captains".

Voyage description

Our sailing area: Danish South Sea between Jutland and Funen

After breakfast, it's "Cast off!" During this first day of sailing, we cross the invisible German-Danish sea border. In the southern part of the island of Funen, between the islands of Als and Ærø, a watery landscape presents itself that is repeatedly interrupted by small and large islands, sandbanks and green forests. A possible first stop on our journey is the small harbour town of Faaborg. The old town centre is one of the best preserved in Denmark. Worth seeing are the free-standing bell tower of the old town church, the only preserved town gate in Denmark and the Viking sculpture at the harbour.

Active or leisurely sailing - the choice is yours

After a safety and sailing briefing from the friendly crew, you can actively participate in the ship's operations. Active assistance on deck is always on a voluntary basis, so you can, of course, simply relax and watch the sailing manoeuvres and the daily practice of traditional seamanship. The fresh sea air is known to make you hungry - so you can look forward to our excellent galley, which will surprise you every day with a variety of creations from the galley cookery book.

Northwards through the Little Belt

We sail northwards through the Little Belt. The strait between Jutland and the island of Funen is a popular sailing area due to its many sheltered bays and small islands. Small fjords, the curved coastline or the wind-protected side of the islands offer numerous opportunities to find a safe anchorage. A night at anchor - as an alternative to going ashore - is always a special, natural experience on any sailing trip.

The northern end of the Belt is particularly scenic, where you can stay in Middelfart. The harbour town offers a varied mix of maritime flair, nature and beach life.

The highlight and cosy conclusion of the last day at sea is our traditional Captain's Dinner with all guests and crew members. At the end of this varied cruise, we tie up the lines in Kolding harbour. You will disembark with a duffel bag full of memories. A relaxing time in the Western Baltic Sea now lies behind you. The trip will remain in your memory thanks to the good balance of time under sail and relaxing shore excursions.

Our tip for a comfortable arrival and departure by train

This is where you disembark

Kolding

Visit the impressive Koldinghus Castle, Jutland's oldest royal castle, and experience maritime history at the Maritime Museum. Explore the Geographical Garden with over 2000 plant species or enjoy free summer concerts at Slotssø

In Kolding you will say goodbye to our crew and your fellow travellers. Use the time during your stay to explore some of the sights of the City in the heart of Jutland to discover: The Geographical Garden is one of the city's green oases - explore the unique collection of flowers, more than 2000 different trees, plants and herbs, organised according to their country of origin, in the 14-hectare adventure park.

For centuries, Koldinghus was Jutland's oldest royal castle and one of the most important castles in the country. The building burnt down in 1808 and stood as a romantic ruin until it was restored. In summer, free concerts are organised by the adjacent lake ("Slotssø").

Guestbook comments

I can only recommend a sailing trip on the 'Eye of the Wind'. This two-master is a sailing ship straight out of a picture book, and the crew is in a great mood. And if you want, you can climb to the top of the mast - 27 metres above sea level. Fabulous!"

Claus-Georg Petri
Fellow sailor and journalist, about his cruise in the Danish South Sea

Simply an overwhelming experience - you have to experience it.

Dr Hermann Gärlich
fellow sailor, about his voyage between Vigo and Tenerife

The seminar was very well organised, both from a personal and professional point of view! I was given some tools that are practical and applicable. The manoeuvring of the sailing ship, the sea around us and the experienced trainer made the seminar unforgettable.

Elisabeth Harlinger
Head of Business Development

We had a great seminar. We actually learnt some new and very valuable things. The fact that we got to lend a hand on a real traditional sailing ship made the management seminar truly unique.

Helmut Wagner
CEO

It was a fabulous week. I would do it again in a heartbeat.
