Trip information

The Rum Regatta has become the largest northern European Meeting of former professional vehicles under sail developed. In a Fleet of numerous historic sailing ships and boats experience a Day on the Flensburg Fjord as part of this relaxed, not always entirely serious regatta event. "It's all about being there! Those who just can't help themselves and want to be first will be mercilessly made fun of - we have the most disgraceful prizes under the northern sun - and the runner-up is rewarded with a huge tub of rum. That's the custom in Flensburg and that's how it will stay." - With these words, the organisers describe the basic idea behind their event.

The starting signal for the rum regatta is given at 10 am. Get to know your fellow travellers for the day over a welcome drink. Or bring your family and friends on board with you and experience a varied day together. Day on one of the last original tall ships of our time. From the Museum safen we set course for the Danish Ox Islands, past shipyards, naval bases and along the green banks of the Flensburg Fjordwhich look particularly impressive from the seaside. Sea air makes you hungry: in the stylish ambience of the parlour or on the open Sun deck of the Eye of the Wind enjoy a Delicious food with a view of the regatta field. The regatta is scheduled to end at 4.30 pm. Don't miss the subsequent "prize-giving ceremony", as this creative and comical "award ceremony of a different kind" is the secret highlight of every rum regatta.

This offer is optionally followed by an overnight stay bookable.

This is where you board

Flensburg

Flensburg impresses with its maritime flair and Nordic charm. Worth seeing are the historic harbour, the picturesque old town with its merchants' courtyards, the Maritime Museum and St. Nikolai's Church. Cosy cafés and promenades along the fjord invite you to linger.

Between the Flensburg FjordThe narrow Als Fjord and the Little Belt create a unique water landscape. Flensburg is the ideal starting point for this area. The Historic seafaring and harbour town is considered the home of rum and the West Indies voyage. Here one follows in the midst of romantic captains' and merchants' courtyards the traces of adventure, the smell of salt and tar. In the 18th century, ships from the Caribbean brought raw rum to the city - the many sailors' shanties around the famous "Buddel Rum" still bear witness to this today. Our tip: take part in one of the City tours part. The Maritime museum with exciting insights into the maritime past and the imposing St Nicholas' Church characterises the cityscape.
