Trip information

The Rum Regatta has developed into the largest gathering of former commercial vessels under sail in Northern Europe. In a fleet of numerous historic sailing ships and boats, you can experience a day on the Flensburg Fjord as part of this relaxed, not always entirely serious regatta event. "It's all about taking part! Anyone who can't resist and wants to come first will be mercilessly mocked – we have the most shameful prizes under the northern sun – and the runner-up will be rewarded with a giant bottle of rum. That's the custom in Flensburg and that's how it will stay." – With these words, the organisers describe the basic idea behind their event.

Enjoy a welcome drink and get to know your fellow passengers for the day. Or bring your family and friends on board and experience a varied day together on one of the last original tall ships of our time. From the museum harbour, we set course for the Danish Ox Islands, passing shipyards, naval bases and along the green shores of the Flensburg Fjord, which are particularly impressive from the sea. Sea air makes you hungry: in the stylish ambience of the saloon or on the open deck of the Eye of the Wind, you can enjoy a delicious meal with a view of the regatta field. The regatta is scheduled to end at 4.30 p.m. Don't miss the subsequent "award giveaway", because this creative and comical "ceremony with a difference" is the secret highlight of every Rum Regatta.

You spend the night on board in an air-conditioned double cabin. Enjoy your delicious breakfast the next morning in the midst of the awakening harbour scene.

The Rum Regatta can be booked without accommodation if desired.

This is where you board

Flensburg

Flensburg impresses with its maritime flair and Nordic charm. Worth seeing are the historic harbour, the picturesque old town with its merchants' courtyards, the Maritime Museum and St. Nikolai's Church. Cosy cafés and promenades along the fjord invite you to linger.

A unique water landscape unfolds between the Flensburg Fjord, the narrow Als Fjord and the Little Belt. Flensburg is the ideal starting point for exploring this area. The historic seafaring and port city is considered the home of rum and West Indian trade. Here, surrounded by romantic captains' and merchants' courtyards, you can follow in the footsteps of adventure, the smell of salt and tar. In the 18th century, ships brought raw rum to the city from the Caribbean – the many sailors' shanties about the famous "bottle of Rum" still bear witness to this today.
Our tip: take part in one of the guided tours of the city. The Maritime Museum offers fascinating insights into the city's maritime past, and the imposing St. Nikolai Church dominates the cityscape.

Notes on the itinerary

To take part in the regatta, it is necessary to be on board at the specified time so that the ship can depart without delay. Please anticipate an increased number of visitors on your arrival and therefore allow sufficient time before checking in.

Our tip for a comfortable journey: Take advantage of our favourable event offer "Rail & Sail".
