Welcome aboard for an unforgettable Caribbean exploration trip through the dreamlike world of the Leeward Islands. Impressive nature, sailing experiences in a sunny maritime climate and the culture of the colourful Caribbean islands make this trip a unique holiday experience. The azure blue ocean, palm-lined beaches and the incomparable flair of the "Caribbean way of life" will remain in your memory for a long time. The starting point of this journey is the butterfly-shaped "Emerald Island" of Guadeloupe, a paradise for nature lovers. The destination is a true Caribbean beauty: the island of Saint Martin, part of the Lesser Antilles archipelago. Stopovers with plenty of time for shore leave are planned in the island nation of Saint Kitts and Nevis or around the islands of Anguilla and Saint Barthélemy, which are located along the route.

Lesser Antilles – Fantastic islands in the Caribbean Sea
Trip information
This is where you board
For nature lovers, the butterfly-shaped "Emerald Island" of Guadeloupe is a green paradise. Here you can discover the largest national park in the Caribbean with the highest waterfalls in the Antilles, a treetop trail, mysterious mangrove forests and lush flora and fauna. From time to time, we can see the volcanic cone of La Soufrière, which is almost 1,500 metres high, from the deck of the Eye of the Wind. The colour palette of the sandy beaches ranges from the finest snow white to black volcanic sand. Guadeloupe is largely influenced by French, African, East Indian and West Indian cultures. This mixture is particularly evident in the architecture, which ranges from French colonial style to Hindu temples.
Voyage description
Our crew will welcome you aboard at the port facility in Pointe-à-Pitre. Embarkation takes place at 7 p.m. During the subsequent dinner together in the cosy saloon, you will immediately feel at home on the deck and get to know your fellow travellers. The Eye of the Wind is not a ship that likes to stay in port, so the next day it's time to cast off! After a safety and sailing briefing by the ship's crew, you will soon be able to participate actively in sailing on a voluntary basis – no previous experience is necessary. Setting and trimming the sails during the days at sea becomes an ever-fascinating spectacle from a bygone era of seafaring.
Our sailing area: the Leeward Islands in the Caribbean Sea
We set course for Guadeloupe's northern neighbouring islands in the Caribbean Sea. Several stopovers are planned during the trip – either in harbours or at anchor in sheltered bays. Where we go ashore depends on the wind and weather conditions and will be decided at short notice by the captain, whenever possible taking your wishes into account. This way, you will experience the trip as a pleasant mix of adventure and comfort, of participation and enjoyment. Possible stops on our route are ...
Îles des Saintes: Caribbean colours above and below the water
The archipelago south of Guadeloupe presents itself in a colourful scenic panorama. In the village of Terre-de-Haut, it is worth taking a stroll along the main street with its countless shops, cafés and restaurants. A trip on the dinghy from the natural harbour off Terre-de-Haut to the uninhabited neighbouring island of Îlet à Cabrit gives you a real sense of adventure. While snorkelling in the shallow, crystal-clear water, you can see a variety of tropical fish and vegetation among the underwater rocks.
Montserrat: Volcanic island with colourful beaches
The island's main attractions are the Soufrière Hills volcano and the abandoned ghost town of Plymouth, buried under volcanic ash. Numerous hiking trails criss-cross the island; along the routes – especially in the Centre Hills area – there are excellent opportunities for bird watching. Bring binoculars to get a good look at the national bird, the Montserrat oriole. The beaches of Montserrat display an unusual colour palette, ranging from ivory white to various shades of grey to shiny black.
Saint Kitts and Nevis: bathing bays and botany
More than a quarter of the island's surface area is designated as a protected national park. Island tours take you to the botanical garden, the old sugar cane factory or the impressive island church dating from 1856. From the lively party beach at Frigate Bay to the hidden gem of Banana Bay, all the bathing bays can be reached quickly by boat and offer us safe anchorages.
This is where you disembark
Princess Juliana International Airport is located in the Dutch southern half of the twin island Sint Maarten / Saint-Martin. A special feature of this Caribbean island paradise worth seeing can be found in the immediate vicinity: At the nearby Maho Beach the distance between the landing aircraft and the heads of the beach visitors (or the mastheads of the boats anchored there) is often only a few metres. The arrival times of the largest scheduled jets are announced daily on a chalkboard attached to a surfboard for amateur photographers. Between the airport and the nearby town of Marigot taxis or minibuses are available. The modern Fort Louis Marina lies in the French part of the colourful and lively Caribbean islandwhere the Euro is the official national currency.
