Trip information

Swap everyday life for a week aboard a traditional tall ship! On this sea voyage through the summery archipelago off the coast of southern Sweden, we first visit the Danish island of Bornholm. The journey ends in Kalmar, where the Eye of the Wind had her home port almost 100 years ago. Adventure, relaxation and nature impressions off the coasts of the Swedish summer provinces of Skåne län and Småland: the vastness of the sea and the gentle sound of the Baltic Sea waves are the best ingredients for a relaxing holiday experience!

Stralsund

The historic Hanseatic city on the Strelasund impresses with its UNESCO Old Town, Gothic brick churches, town hall, harbour, German Maritime Museum and historic St. John's Monastery. Visitors enjoy the maritime atmosphere, museums, city walls and the Rügen Bridge as the gateway to the island of Rügen.

The picturesque town centre with its brick Gothic buildings is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Ozeaneum at the harbour sees itself as a declaration of love to the oceans, with 45 aquariums, some of them huge, an underwater journey through the northern seas, life-size replicas of whales and a penguin enclosure on the roof terrace. The modern architecture is reminiscent of sails billowing in the wind. Within sight of the Ozeaneum is a special maritime monument: the barque Gorch Fock (I), an identical sister ship to the German Navy's training ship.

The well-maintained tradition of beer brewing is kept alive at the Störtebeker Brewery. Our tip: round off your shore leave with a tour of the brewery.

Kalmar

This city on Sweden's east coast combines history and the sea. Its landmark is the impressive Kalmar Castle with its museum and park. Cafés and small shops attract visitors to the historic old town of Kvarnholmen. From Kalmar Sound, you can enjoy the view of the island of Öland with its famous bridge.

Kalmar, located on Sweden's east coast, combines historical significance with maritime flair. Particularly impressive is the mighty Kalmar Castle, one of the best-preserved Renaissance residences in Northern Europe, which, with its towers, moats and exhibitions, immerses visitors in the era of King Gustav Vasa. The picturesque old town of Kvarnholmen attracts visitors with its narrow streets, colourful wooden houses and cosy cafés. At the Kalmar Läns Museum, you can learn exciting facts about the famous warship Kronan and the region's history. Swimming enthusiasts and walkers enjoy the green coastal areas along the Kalmar Sound and the view across to the island of Öland, which can be reached via one of the longest bridges in Europe. Our ship had its home port here from 1924 under its former name "Sam".

Guestbook comments

I can highly recommend a sailing trip on the Eye of the Wind. This is a sailing ship straight out of a picture book, and the crew is in a great mood. You may climb to the top of the mast – 27 metres above sea level. Fabulous!"

Seeing this magnificent sailing ship glide through the waves powered only by the wind is an indescribable feeling. There is nothing more beautiful.
