Trip information

Welcome aboard for an early summer sailing trip in an extraordinary sailing area. We’ll be taking a week to explore the coastal landscape and the bays around Shetland. The starting and finishing point of our journey is the island’s capital, Lerwick. In between, we’ll enjoy relaxing days at sea, fresh North Sea breezes and a varied mix of shore leave, island explorations, nature experiences and longer sailing legs by day and, weather permitting, occasionally by night too.

We are planning a visit to the neighbouring island of Fair Isle, where, under the expert guidance of a ranger, we intend to take part in a guided walk to the nesting sites of the charming puffins.

This is where you board

Lerwick / Shetland

Lerwick is situated on the northernmost of the British Isles, 160 kilometres from the Scottish mainland. The harbour town consists of narrow streets branching off from Commercial Street. Street markets and live concerts take place in the town centre all year round. Tip: A visit to the Shetland Museum and Archives is free of charge

Nowhere on the Shetland Islands is more than three miles from the sea. You won’t find any tartan or bagpipes here; instead, Viking traditions are kept alive. The islands are best known for their ponies and their fine knitwear made from merino wool, featuring traditional Fair Isle patterns.

Victoria Pier is a hub of activity and a starting point for exploring the area.

If you’d like to extend your stay in Shetland by a few days, be sure to bring your camera kit: Moussa Island is home to large bird colonies; at the lighthouse at Sumburgh Head, the charming puffins sometimes fly right in front of your lens; and, with a little patience, you can also spot seals in the many small coves.

Guestbook comments

I’m absolutely thrilled with this sailing trip (it was my first of its kind) and am still basking in the many memories, the excellent crew, who were always so friendly, and, of course, the experience of seeing how it’s still possible to travel on a historic sailing ship today.

Guestbook entry regarding the sailing trip from Falmouth to Greenwich

We had a fantastic trip full of adventures: climbing in the rigging, taking the helm, hoisting and striking the sails, splicing ropes, exploring Cherbourg and Jersey, fishing and simply enjoying ourselves. Every single crew member is wonderful. Thank you so much for the brilliant time we spent together!
