We’re delighted that you’d like to join us on board as a trainee.

As a trainee on board the Eye of the Wind, you will

• gain valuable, unforgettable experiences that will stay with you for life,

• travel in harmony with nature and discover fascinating destinations,

• acquire specialist technical skills, and

• perhaps even make friends for life.

At the same time, you are choosing to take responsibility for ensuring the continued existence of a historic sailing ship. The Eye of the Wind is regarded as a jewel of shipbuilding and an important part of our maritime heritage. Through your work on board, you are making a valuable contribution to its preservation.

This sailing ship is able to operate because FORUM train & sail GmbH provides the financial basis for its operation and maintenance. We must therefore ensure that the satisfaction and well-being of our travelling, paying guests are a priority at all times, every day.

Our mission and our promise:

1. The health and safety of everyone on board is our top priority at all times and without exception.

2. The satisfaction of our guests and the ship’s good technical condition are our second-highest priority.

3. The joy of sailing and the personal satisfaction you derive from your work on board come quite naturally.

We have a permanent crew of six, comprising the captain, helmsman, engineer, cook and two deckhands. Depending on the role, this crew usually rotates every three months. The permanent crew is supported by two to four trainees.

As a trainee, you will usually remain on board for three months. Your work is on a ‘hands-on for a berth’ basis – this means that we provide you with free accommodation and meals, and in return you actively help out on board. You are responsible for your own travel costs to and from the ship.
